I want to learn a language
And I want to have cool software to help me.
But what kind of software?
There are 2 problems with learning a language
- Learning a language takes a long time, even babies take years to become fluent.
- Studying vocabulary and grammar gets really boring after a while
I don’t think it’s possible to fix the first problem, it just takes time for our brains to get used to understanding and producing language.
The second problem is what I’m hoping to tackle
How do we make language learning entertaining?
- It would be easy – as much as possible you would learn by immersion and not through hard work or memorisation
- It would be fun – It should be something that’s enjoyable so that you choose to do it rather than being forced into it.
- It would measure progress – It’s still going to take a while so it’s important to see that you are improving over time so that you don’t get discouraged.
- It should be personalised – Not everyone will enjoy the same thing so it’s important that people can choose the kind of activities and materials that they want to study.
